these girls...

olivia is awesome. she's funny. she's smart. she's gorgeous. she's kind. she's loving. she's passionate about what she loves. she's growing to be a pretty cool person. the kind of person i hoped she would grow up to be. she's got the best of her father & i. obviously, she has my stellar personality. and she has jarrett's passion.

along with my stellar personality, she has inherited my tendency to be stubborn. she's headstrong. she's, at times, defiant. i find myself asking why she chooses to defy me. but at the same time, i am happy knowing that she won't be a total wimp. there is no doubt in my mind that she will never let anyone walk all over her. she's a girl that knows what she likes and knows what she doesn't like. she also gets that from me.

my sweet little rachel is different than her sister in so many ways. but very much alike at the same time. funny how that happens. rachel is the sweetest person. like ever. she's meek. she's emotional. she's clinging to the baby-ness. she wants us to hold her. she wants to snuggle. she has the sweetest little tiny voice.

she also has a tendency to gloat. you know, rub it in a little bit that she gets to play all day while olivia is at school. i said to her the other night, "rachel, are you instigating?" she yells back "no" then whispers to jar "what's instigating mean?"

they are growing up. it is so very obvious.

olivia told me today "mom, you don't have to kiss & hug me good-bye when you drop me off at school." talk about breaking my heart. but i just said "ok no problem. we can do that at home before we leave." i don't know if it so much the kiss & hug or the slap on the bottom i give her every day when i drop her off at school. i digress. she is getting too old and too embarrassed.

rachel, on the other hand, today when i was dropping her off asked if i could just take her home. she is sad because she misses me during the day. again with breaking my heart.

so i have one kid who doesn't want me to acknowledge that i am anything more than a chauffeur to her in the mornings. and one kid who clinged to my leg & asked me to take her back home & spend the day snuggled on the couch. that's what the age difference will get me 8 & 1/2 and a young 5. one doesn't want me to kiss her good-bye in front of friends & the other cries and has to be pried off my leg by her teacher.

i guess i'm doing something right with these girls...
